Our client is looking for a Database Administrator (DBA) to provide operational database services and support for its production databases and the infrastructure upon which they depend. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role include: owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests; fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs; reviewing operational reports (e.g., database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved proactively; responding to database related alerts and escalations; aiding in enterprise application administration, updates, upgrades, and migrations; and working with Business Intelligence to develop database objects for our BI data warehouse and reporting system. The DBA role requires a service-oriented mentality with a high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned.
Additional general responsibilities include:
Aid in administering enterprise applications that rely upon SQL Server databases.
Tune performance of the environment including databases, tables, views/queries and stored procedures.
Install, upgrade and configure SQL Server and related patches; perform all database maintenance, backup and recovery activities.
Develop and write stored procedures, functions, queries, and views in Transact-SQL as needed.
Set up and administer database security; provide user privileges in development, test and production databases.
To be considered qualified, you must possess:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other technology related discipline or equivalent education/experience in the field of data management.
Two or more years of database administration experience in a client/server production environment, including the following:
Experience with Database Administration for MS SQL Server (versions 2005 - 2014).
Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
Skilled in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Experience with backups, restores and recovery models; knowledge of Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MS SQL Server.
Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts.
Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
Expertise in working with Transact-SQL
Experience in implementing, configuring, and deploying SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) environments and reports; knowledge of IBM Cognos or Microsoft Power BI is a plus.
The preferred candidates would also meet the following criteria:
Involvement with the MS SQL Server Community; membership in PASS; active in forums or newsgroups.
Experience working with PowerShell or other scripting tools.
Knowledge of Team Foundation Server (TFS) and Git; experience working with SharePoint would be beneficial.
