Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures. Requires certain certifications in the field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A small degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager.
Maintain general shop safety and cleanliness.
Perform general machine shop functions.
Set up and operate any manual machine with no supervision.
Set up and operate all grinding room equipment: surface grinders, heat treat ovens, optical comparator, hone, etc.
Provides training to lower level operators/employees.
Any other work related duties assigned by the Supervisor of Production Services.
All job requirements of Grade B.
Must be able and willing to be utilized in the CNC area as an operator.
Must have gained 8000 hours or equivalent experience in machine shop.
Must be able to design and manufacture set up fixturing.
Must be able to consistently produce high quality/quantity of acceptable work.
Must be able to consistently produce parts holding +/- .0005 tolerances.
Must be able to be utilized in QC area to check parts to maintain quality standards.
Advanced computer skills a must.
Assist in setting the standards for company policies.
Tools needed as required performing described duties.
Ability to work independently and still function as a team player.
