Research, design, develop, test, or supervise the setup and installation of audio/visual systems for deployment in critical command and control environments. Configure equipment to facilitate the transmission of audio and video signals throughout the system. Assemble and create documentation to support client approval and use.
Create cost effective and functional designs of audio/visual systems for both engineering and build projects.
Produce documentation including functional use statements, operator interface manuals, and schematic or signal flow diagrams.
Close communication with the technicians and shop floor to ensure that designs are introduced to production efficiently and that production feedback is designed into the products.
Support the deployment of all electro-mechanical and electronic components, devices or systems.
Evaluate design and/or specification requirements and compile estimated costs to engineer and produce electro-mechanical/electronic device, component, instrument, display or control systems.
Coordinate technical communications and professionally interface with customers for data gathering and design details for assigned projects.
Engineer product, system, or technical solution for compliancy to estimated costs, schedule, profitability, best manufacturing practices and for accredited design standards for customer, stock or R&D projects.
Work with draftspersons to generate CAD based engineering drawings and data sheets to support the design process and to support transportation, process control, electrical, and nuclear projects.
Model, prove, or test according to design details.
Generate Bill of Material (BOM), part/assembly details and, materials request forms for parts and recommend parts to be incorporated into our client’s master parts list.
Report current task status, risks and performance of assigned projects to project management and scheduler(s) on a regular basis.
Compile the design process and engineering details including process reviews, submittal drawings, datasheets, programming, work instructions, manuals, and final documentation according to the job/contract and to company and customer quality management requirements.
Provide peer review of engineering designs.
Support Sales/Estimation in estimating labor, material, and manufacturing costs.
Support Purchasing in preparing specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.
Carry out travel activities for on-site data gathering and sales support.
Work with Operations to resolve manufacturing concerns.
Assist estimation department in preparing parts orders.
Maintain familiarity with all relevant products and technologies, including exploration and analysis of emerging technologies.
Provide internal technical support and second level technical support to customers.
Design and program MS Windows based software applications, A/V matrix controllers, PLC and HMI applications.
Support system installations on site as needed.
Provide support in developing control room layouts for pre-engineering projects.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and multiyear experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; including Outlook, Project, Word, and Excel.
Basic level Microstation applications V8i or above.
Basic level AutoCAD 2008, Promis-e V8i applications or above.
Ability to multi-task with attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills.
Beneficial Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of processes, methods, and technologies involved in fabrication and basic understanding of design methods for manufacturability.
Knowledge of function and ergonomic design for command and control applications, power plant simulator or main control panels, utility control room applications, or rail transit signal control.
ERP database applications, in particular ERP database 6.n and 8.n by Epicor.
MS Windows software application development
Crestron/AMX platform, A/V matrix, PLC and HMI programming skills.
