Position Summary

The Battery Engineer will support our GenDrive and ProGen teams to help improve and develop new Battery systems for Plug Power products. The Battery Engineer will be part of a team that will pursue the new development, constant improvement and safe operation of battery concepts at Plug Power. The ideal candidate should have a background with designing 2 KWhr to 20 KWhr+ Lithium Ion battery systems and have knowledge of testing and certifications. The role will require collaboration with various engineering disciplines as well as other cross-functional departments. The ideal candidate should be creative, self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments and willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization.


Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with electrical, mechanical, chemical and manufacturing engineers to develop state of the art, reliable battery packs
  • Review latest battery technologies to continue to accelerate state of the art technologies that will provide benefits in the ways of safety, reliability and cost
  • Analyze field failures and bring back improvements to the field and implement changes in new designs
  • Work with manufacturing and RMA group to maintain pertinent statistics and improve throughput
  • Create and execute test plans for battery cell and pack safety, performance and characterization
  • Stay up to date on battery certification requirements and deliver battery packs through these tests
  • Communicate consistently and effectively to all cross-functional team members where needed to ensure that battery improvements and changes are understood, and questions are answered to move projects forward
  • Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a relevant field of study including but not limited to Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Systems Engineering; advanced degree preferred
  • 3+ years of related work experience; experience within a product development team is highly preferred
  • Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with Lithium Ion Battery design, testing, certification
