Duties & Responsibilities


1.   Manage profit center resources to attain target financial results by:

a.   Identifying growth opportunities within the relevant markets and securing/maintaining a backlog of work

b.   Setting competitive prices for the services offered that yield acceptable margins for the profit center

c.   Managing resources and controlling costs to effectively deliver the services

d.   Maintaining efficient service delivery processes that ensure safe operations and quality work products

e.   Analyzing financial results on an ongoing basis, explaining variance from plan/budget and taking corrective action as required

f.    Managing all aspects of contract negotiation, change order identification, submittal and

approval, administration, establishing the system to carry out the contract including management of subcontractors

g.   Review of project financials reports to project accounting with adequate backup for management, internal and external accounting and/or SOX requirements

h.   Review of financial controls to ensure project profitability and expected cash flow positions


2.   Provide management leadership to ensure the availability of a skilled, qualified, and motivated workforce by:

a.   Displaying effective leadership skills in motivating, rewarding, and assisting individuals through the use of innovative techniques and effective management systems

b.   Ensuring that individuals have the training, tools, personal equipment, work environment,

and technical support to optimize their performance and achieve desired results

c.   Providing individuals with honest and constructive feedback, assistance in setting priorities, and opportunities for personal and professional development


d.   Creating an environment where team performance is more important than individual performance

e.    Coaching and mentoring of other professionals


3.   Manage the portfolio of technical disciplines within the specific engineering & design area and alter the technical capabilities of the department to or in anticipation of changing market conditions. Ensure that all staffing and utilization goals are met.  Coordinate resource activities with those in other engineering & design areas within the Company.


4.   Provide technical leadership to ensure that all specific engineering services are provided per applicable professional codes and standards by:

a.   Providing technical direction to project teams on complex multi-disciplined projects b.   Developing and maintaining engineering standards, work practices, and systems

c.   Adhering to established QA/QC principles, policies and procedures

d.   Maintaining knowledge of the engineering and technical industry codes, standards, and best practices

e.   Developing and maintaining knowledge of the current and future enablers, systems, and

applications available in the industry to ensure continuous improvement


5.   Ensure that client relations are properly maintained, and market reputation is enhanced by providing:

a.   Management of the project in accordance with our client’s Policies and Procedures

b.   Management of the client and project stakeholders, ensuring effective business relationships are in place and trusted by the all

c.   Effective project meetings (project kickoff, client alignment, status meeting, progress

review, etc)

d.   Project reporting and status for the project team, management, and client e.   Accurate invoices to ensure timely issuance and payment

f.    Improve the organizations profitability by generating new prospects and developing new existing client relationships.

g.   Develop, assess, and report on the business development approach, ensuring the strategic objectives are well understood and implemented by the team

h.   Lead the team in sourcing, managing and implementing new business opportunities and office functions.

i.    Ensure business growth through business development activities to ensure these are delivered in accordance with the organizational mission.

j.    Collect and compare pertinent data on the target market


6.   Ensure appropriate estimating/risk management input is provided for all business proposals and contract negotiations


7.   Adhere to and help advance corporate safety policy


8.   Ensure administrative duties are carried out in accordance with company policy

     Working knowledge of project accounting practices and financial systems

      Working knowledge of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus and Unit contract pricing mechanisms

      Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications with MS office application proficiency including MS Project and/or Primavera scheduling software


Preferred Education, Licensing and Experience:


     Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university

     Registration as Professional Engineer

      Significant experience at a professional level in electrical power systems engineering work related to planning, designing, and operating T&D systems which demonstrates a progressive

development of competence
