Thermal Engineer will support the company’s thermal design and analysis efforts. The Thermal Engineer will be a member of the Engineering team and play a key role in the analysis and development of all thermal subsystems on the vehicle.
Core Accountabilities and Essential Functions
- Serve as the resident expert of thermal analysis and design for the company.
- Analyze thermal systems using hand-calcs and analytical tools such as StarCCM+, Simcenter, Thermal Desktop, etc.
- Have a good working knowledge of active and passive thermal solutions with the ability to select materials and identify hardware.
- Work with Design Engineers and Manufacturing to ensure the thermal solution can be integrated and manufactured.
- Work with our Systems Engineering team to generate, refine, revise requirements, and support the verification of these requirements.
- Support the development of testing plans and testing.
- Mentor/train junior engineers.
Required Education and Experience
- 4-year degree from an accredited college or university in mechanical engineering or similar discipline (engineering/science), master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in thermal and fluid systems.
Required Qualifications
- Strong understanding of thermal and fluid system fundamentals, especially radiative heat transfer.
- Adept at one or more analytical tools such as StarCCM, Fluent, Thermal Desktop, etc., and experience with Matlab, Python, or similar scripting language.
- Familiarity with two-phase flow (a plus).
- Solid written and oral communication skills.
- Must be a team player and be able to function in a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft suite of products.
- Have a willingness and ability to occasionally work long hours and weekends, and travel as required.
