COO/Business Manager from IT Company

Primary Purpose of the Position:

Business IT Manager 

The Senior Business Manager is both a strategic and operational role responsible for oversight and management of a wide range of functions including department planning, cost/benefit analysis to support department & business decision-making, vendor management, compliance, talent management, technology governance, communication and program management for the GBSI ( Global Business Solutions Investments Technology group).  The incumbent serves as a critical extension of the Department Manager to ensure his/her strategy, roadmap, tempo, & tone are consistently & faithfully realized within the department.  As such, the incumbent acts as the ‘Chief Operating Officer’ and ‘Chief Financial Officer’ for the department.  The incumbent executes the role with a strong focus on outcome production in a proactive, process-oriented fashion with a strong client-orientation.  The incumbent proactively manages unit issues on behalf of the Head of GBSI and serves as an integral liaison to other technology groups, other business units, as well as shared service groups. Enables the Head of GBSI to remain focused on technical issues, strategic priorities, relationships, and building organizational capabilities essential to the ongoing success of the unit.

Principal Responsibilities:

Program – Leads the program management responsibility for GBSI to ensure high quality transparency, program synthesis, risk management, and coordination is maintained for GBS Investments’ program portfolio. Includes managing matrixed project managers deployed with Section Managers within GBSI and supporting GBSI’s governance structure.

Finance – Leads the financial management responsibility for GBSI to ensure a high bar for commercial accountability & financial operations within the department.  Includes building financial models to accurately & completely forecast spend within the department, model project expenses to enable decision making, and proactively managing financial risks within the department.

Talent & Communication – Oversees & operates the talent management responsibility within GBSI to ensure GBSI is maximizing the value of its talent portfolio.  Includes operating GBSI recruiting & hiring processes to provide leverage & consistency to Section Managers within GBSI; coordinating & ensuring high quality for annual talent activities within the overall department; leads the communications efforts for GBSI and supports the Head of GBSI in working groups, forums, and councils, planning both written and ‘live’ communications.

Vendor – Leads the vendor management responsibilities to ensure GBSI maintain excellent vendor relationships, maximizes the value of its vendor portfolio, and operates within legal, compliance & regulatory standards.  Includes establishing contracts on behalf of Section Managers, negotiating commercial & legal terms in partnership with Business & Technology stakeholders, validating program & financial operations are consistent with signed contracts, and, when necessary, serve as Relationship Manager for vendors.

Qualifications:

MBA (concentration in Finance) is strongly preferred, would also consider those with BS or BA degree and 10+ years’ relevant experience.
Background working in Technology or Data organizations         

Leadership skills, including ability to manage the conceptual and strategic aspects of the business while also ensuring operational excellence. 

Organizational skills to know how to navigate within a strong culture and the patience to determine the right pace for the change. 
Demonstrated change leadership, playing a key role in sponsoring the portfolio of changes within the business unit, as well as supporting and/or driving changes that they may be involved in across the firm.
Strong interpersonal skills, especially influencing and relationship management
Exceptional financial analysis proficiency
Effective strategic thinking and planning skills
Project management
Demonstrated creative and critical thinking
Highly results driven individual that energetically leads multiple projects to timely, successful and desired conclusion with minimal supervision

Excellent attention to detail
