SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR - UNIX (NSWCDD-16-1424-F)
Our client is seeking a System Administrator - Unix to support the NSWCDD contract in Dahlgren, VA. This position will provide Operation and Maintenance (O&M) support for UNIX, Linux and Firewall systems on the classified and unclassified Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) networks.
Install software, apply patches, manage file systems, and monitor performance of UNIX, Linux and Firewall systems.
Maintain and administer Domain Name System (DNS), Sendmail, Apache HTTPD, and network management software.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting of managed systems and software.
Perform data backups and restoration of files.
Assist in the certification and accreditation process for managed systems and networks.
Assist in the installation and deployment of new workstation, server and Firewall hardware and software.
Review daily logs for managed systems and report any unusual activity.
Participate in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) associated with managed systems and applications.
Collaborate with IT staff on projects and initiatives.
Assess the security risk of proposed Firewall modifications and implement approved changes.
Provide input for a monthly progress and status report.
Maintain knowledge of current technologies and their potential application to the RDT&E environment.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
A strong understanding of various types of UNIX operating systems and platforms to include Oracle Solaris and Linux.
Familiarity with Department of Defense security guidelines and policies.
Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and the OSI model and how they apply to production systems and networks.
Basic knowledge of Firewall functions and operations (proxy, proxy-arp, NAT, stateful packet inspection, circuit layer gateways, application layer gateway).
Experience with PKI/smart card authentication and related infrastructure.
Shell scripting expertise.
Must meet DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical Level III certification requirements at time of hire.
Physical Demands: Office Environment - - The environmental conditions consist of computer stations and desks with adequate and adjustable lighting. Chairs are designed to fit the various individuals and the tasks being performed. Ergonomic evaluations are completed as needed, to provide up to date modifications to all work stations.
