Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position will provide Engineering, Sales and Marketing with technical support in formulating and executing our client’s solutions and strategies to existing and potential customers. The pre-sales engineer has a desire to sell, drive toward quota and is comfortable looking for opportunities once introduced to a customer. He/she must possess effective proposal writing skills in tandem with strong interpersonal verbal and presentation/public speaking skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Directly interact with customers, account executives and engineers in a pre-sales capacity to identify, develop, qualify, and obtain complete information for solutions including hardware, software and services. Will be responsible for all of the technical aspects of the sale during the entire sales cycle.
Creatively designs solutions for customers using the best mix of vendor-partner products through the creation of proposals and/or SOWs. Must be able to represent our client’s in formal presentations of those recommendations;
The pre-sales engineer will also be involved directly with clients, post purchase, for support of product installation and ongoing support calls
Responsible for growing strategic product sales and revenue through proactive engagement with customers. Understands that this position holds a quarterly quota;
Participates in strategic and tactical account planning.
Strong knowledge of/and fluency in articulating features, functions, benefits, and positioning of our clients solutions and services to both business and technical users. Ability to apply this knowledge to address customer business requirements and make recommendations;
Contribute and develop best practices, strategies, methodologies and documentation/templates
Develop strong customer relationships and trust to secure future business
Ability to achieve results while operating independently with minimal guidance is a must;
Follows industry technology trends through self-study and formal training and shares that knowledge with customers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge of backup, restore and disaster recovery planning and deployment
Knowledge of Server Virtualization
Familiarity with the design and architecture of the following products:
VMware VSPhere 5.x to current
Dell Power Edge Servers
Dell Compellent SAN
EMC VNXe and EMC VNX
AppAssure 5.x backup software
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012
Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory Services design and implementation
Exchange 2010 or 2013;
Microsoft SCCM – Configuration Manager
VMware – Horizon View (VDI)
Must be up to speed on current state best practices around enterprise solutions;
8 years Network/PC experience combined;
2-3 + years experience in a pre-sales or sales environment is strongly preferred along with experience working with or for an OEM or a Value Added Reseller (VAR) is strongly preferred;
4-year college degree in a related field, and possess current knowledge of storage, back-up and recovery, directory services and server management;
Appropriate, relevant and current certifications a must in one or more of the following: Microsoft, EMC, Dell;
Must be able to demonstrate both a technical competence and a proven track record of technical accomplishments in the technology field; must be entrepreneurial, with a demonstrated ability to achieve established goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment;
Must submit a written sample of solution development when requested during the interview process;
Strong time management, written and verbal communication and presentation skills are mandatory;
Must be able to pass a criminal background check;
Up to 10% travel required.
