Real Estate Controller

JOB DESCRIPTION


Our client is a cutting edge real estate development firm based in Washington, DC, and we're hiring a Controller. You will oversee all accounting functions, including expense management related to the company and each project within our growing portfolio. Our client is a creative, entrepreneurial environment that believes in design-driven development. This strategic role requires a combination of organization, focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to dig into the details when needed. The ideal candidate is proactive, a critical thinker and will exercise good judgment in a variety of situations.

This full-time position reports directly to the COO, and encompasses the following areas of responsibility:

Evaluate and manage internal controls/reports
Perform financial analysis on current and future development projects
Prepare and review monthly loan draw requests for construction projects
Audit subcontractor and supplier invoices
Oversee periodic budget forecasting
Manage property/casualty insurance programs
Direct accounting firm in tax preparation and filing
Analyze potential new processes to enhance accounting and risk mitigation capabilities, and implement accordingly

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Competitive candidates have at least four years of previous real estate accounting experience that resulted in preparing draft financial statements, extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, strong written and verbal communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail.  A college degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance is preferred.
