SUMMARY – The COBOL Programmer / Analyst will function as a senior technical resource for a large, high-profile agile development effort extending a pension administration system. This position will be responsible for the maintenance and support of legacy mainframe applications, and for the analysis of legacy applications and business processes to extend and upgrade those applications. This position will partner closely with the business stakeholders, project manager, architect, and other IS staff. This position requires critical thinking and problem solving abilities to address complex issues.
Maintain and support Micro Focus COBOL applications in a mainframe environment
Work both independently and as part of an Agile (SCRUM) development team
Design and develop reports which integrate data from multiple LOB applications
Review and repair legacy code
Analyze existing application code and document expected inputs, outputs, and transformations.
Perform unit and integration testing to ensure software quality
Work collaboratively with other developers, business analysts, and management to define new (and enhance existing) features that are aligned with this organization’s overall long term strategy
Analyze business and technical requirements to design solutions
Perform 2nd-level escalation of support tickets
Participate in special projects
Assist in development of training materials, user documentation, etc.
Knowledge, skills and general abilities:
Minimum 6+ years of experience building and supporting COBOL applications against both hierarchical and relational databases
Experience with Unisys mainframe environments using DMS and RDMS databases is preferred
